My Moody Bedroom Design
I love a moody bedroom. We painted our bedroom a dark color when we first moved in back in 2014 and I still love it. To be honest, I was hesitant at first because not too many people doing it at that time and there were not many examples. We where definitely ahead of the trends. My husband wanted to paint it dark because he liked the name of the paint, “Polo Blue”. Not necessarily a good reason, plus the color is almost black, but we had to pick colors because the painter was starting the job the following week. The bedroom is really the perfect place for a dark color since the bedroom is a place of rest and a dark room helps you fall asleep easier. A dark color may also be a good choice for a nursery to help your little ones fall asleep.
When we first moved in I had a darker Ralph Lauren duvet with a floral chinoiserie pattern, but over the years I’ve just preferred a lighter colored duvet or coverlet. Last week I purchased this lovely mexican blanket cover with tassels on Etsy and I love the texture in the room. They only had one so I will link a similar one below. I have many other antique items in the room and I think the coverlet ties in well with them. My night stand is a small antique desk that I picked up at a local consignment shop in Toledo. Many of the other items such as the marble lamp, rush chair, and hanging art were picked up at local thrift stores years ago.
If your thinking of painting your bedroom a dark color here are a few tips:
If you are unsure about such a dark color for your walls then keep your trim and ceiling a light color to offset the dark wall color. If you want to “go all in” then go ahead and paint it all.
Again, if you are on the fence then choose lighter colored bedding to offset the dark walls.
Mix up the textures in the room. You could use a duvet or coverlet that has some texture like linen or a woven blanket. You could also use a jute, sisal, or woven wool rug to bring in texture on the floor. There are many woven beds available now that will also add texture to your bedroom.
Mix up the furniture colors in the room. I have an espresso colored bed paired with a antique whisky colored desk as a night stand.
Add antique items into your room. Antique items can make the room feel special and one of a kind.
The walls are painted “Polo Blue” by Benjamin Moore and the trim and ceiling are painted “Glacier White” by Benjamin Moore.
The roses are from my own garden and the varity is Parfuma Earth Angel.
